Video podcast: El cultivo del plátano en las islas canarias

Banana Link habló recientemente con el agricultor canario de plátanos ecológicos, Jorge Hernández, para conocer el cultivo de plátanos en las islas y los retos a los que se enfrentan los agricultores de plátanos en la Comunidad Autónoma española.

Hemos grabado un video podcast con Jorge que puedes ver a continuación – está en audio español e inglés, con subtítulos en español e inglés.

Entre otras cosas, Jorge habla de los precios del plátano y de la comercialización del plátano canario, incluyendo las recientes peticiones de exención para los agricultores canarios de una ley española que prohíbe la venta de productos por debajo del precio de coste.

También habla de los métodos de control de plagas y enfermedades que utiliza en su finca, de los retos del cambio climático y de cómo se presenta el futuro del cultivo del plátano canario.

Nos hubiera gustado hablar más sobre sus métodos de producción ecológica y sus prácticas de gestión del agua, pero no tuvimos tiempo, así que esperamos grabar otra entrevista con él en el futuro para hablar de estos y otros aspectos de su agricultura con más detalle.
