8 September 2008
On October 7 2008 the global trade union movement is organising a World Day for Decent Work. This is an unparalleled opportunity for trade unions and organisations interested in Decent Work all around the world to join a broad global mobilisation involving a large number of people and a wide range of activities. A successful day will focus attention on the urgent need for a new globalisation. Click here for more information and to support the World Day for Decent Work.
World Day for Decent Work in the UK
To mark the event in the UK, and in support of the Decent Work, Decent Life agenda, the TUC is organising a day of activities at Congress House, London, focusing on rights at work and ending inequality in the workplace.
The event promises to be the largest ever gathering of international development and labour-related organisations in the UK concerned with the Decent Work agenda. Over the course of the day there will be over 50 workshops, films, exhibitions and stalls from UK development charities, trade unions, organisations concerned with fair and ethical trade, and academic institutions focusing on the development and gender dimensions of livelihood and income generation issues.
The day will provide:
- An opportunity for you to learn more about the Decent Work agenda, how it relates to fellow trade unionists' and workers' lives on a global level, and how you can support the international Decent Work, Decent Life Campaign
- A platform for unions, non-governmental organisations and other agencies to showcase those aspects of their work as they relate to the Decent Work agenda
- A networking forum so that the range of organisations involved in the Decent Work agenda can learn about one another and make important contacts
The programme is currently being finalised, but events will occur throughout the day, commencing at 9.30am and finishing at 5pm, with a solidarity Rally afterwards.
The event is free to attend, but registration in advance is essential. Register online to attend World Day for Decent Work events online now or download an event flyer.
