A Time to Act on EPA Negotiations |
|
1 July 2008
It is now just less than a month until Caribbean governments are to sign onto the EPA. Despite the rhetoric around the ministers signing and the benefits of the agreements, the actions, resistance and voices of citizens and campaigners have been making a dent in the process and, on the eve of signature, governments are slowly but surely coming out to say it is a bad deal (St Lucia & Guyana)
At this moment, there is still time for change - we should not wain but
push harder. At a recent civil society conference on the EPA in
Trinidad June 13th , civil society organisations (CSOs) there committed
to continuing the fight.
One of the strategies is to mobilise a major petition campaign to get
signatures from Caribbean citizens and this need all the support it can
get, so please encourage and mobilise your networks, friends and
families. Let's test our democracy ... lets make a resounding noise
that will be heard in all the hallowed halls throughout the Caribbean.
